The data modeling election is here. Six parties are campaigning for your data platform, and every one of them promises faster queries, full history, and a project that finishes on time. As in every election, at least two of these promises will be broken.
Take a stand on 15 statements drawn straight from project life: the source system that renames a column on a Friday afternoon, the dashboard that needs 14 joins, and the auditor who wants to know what the customer’s address was in 2019.
Your answers decide which party wins. The winner then chooses a coalition partner using a time-honored political principle: pick whoever agrees with you the loudest. A reality check reveals whether that coalition would survive an actual project.
